Hidden treasures uncovered: successful detection of fossils below the surface in large limestone blocks using a standard medical X-ray CT scanner

چکیده

The use of CT scans in palaeontology has a long history. Most X-ray fossils are carried out on previously prepared specimens and seldom unprepared blocks fossils. Here we report the standard medical scanner to detect vertebrate invertebrate inside limestone as an aid subsequent preparation. results were largely successful, with low-resolution images radiodensity thresholds which nevertheless created sufficient contrast for identification objects their location limestone, thus optimizing allocation time resources palaeontological We conclude that scanners initial visual inspection presence below surface is possible, cost effective reliable. In addition, it allows original raw data be preserved digital object. advantages making facilitate preparation under logistic or budgetary limitations becoming more apparent.

The effect of focal spot size on the spatial resolution of variable resolution X-ray CT scanner

Background: A variable resolution X-ray (VRX) CT scanner provides a great increase in the spatial resolution. In VRX CT scanners, the spatial resolution of the system and its field of view (FOV) can be changed according to the object size. One of the main factors that limit the spatial resolution of VRX CT scanner is the effect of the X-ray focal spot. Materials and Methods: A theoreti...

Assessment of X-Ray Crosstalk in a Computed Tomography Scanner with Small Detector Elements Using Monte Carlo Method

Introduction: Crosstalk is a leakage of X-ray or light produced in a matrix of X-ray detectors or array of photodiodes in one element to other elements affecting on image contrast and spatial resolution. In this study, we assessed X-ray crosstalk in a computed tomography (CT) scanner with small detector elements to estimate the effect of various parameters such as X-ray tube voltage, detector e...

Detection of breast cancer using non-invasive X-ray diffraction technique of hair: A preliminary study

Background: An early diagnosis of breast cancer relates directly to an accurate treatment plan and strategy. Early detection of breast cancer before its development would be a significant reduction of morbidity and mortality rates. The aim of this preliminary study is to investigate the sensitivity of Wide Angle X-ray diffraction (WAXRD) method on women hair samples of healthy and breast cancer...
